Town of New Salem Selectboard

Meeting Minutes

June 14, 2021

Convened: 4:30 pm

Present: Randy Gordon, Wayne Hachey, Hugh Mackay, Selectboard; Nancy Aldrich, Town Coordinator

Discussion Items

The Selectboard reviewed the final ATM warrant and motions.  A brief discussion of who will be making each of the motions followed.

The Board reviewed two notices: one from the Veterans’ Service District regarding an upcoming open house and the other from the Tax Collector regarding her updated hours. No action was required for either announcement.

Randy asked the Board to vote on changing from KP Law to Mirick O’Connell for Town Counsel in FY22.  He felt that the June 28th meeting, where appointment slips will be signed, did not leave sufficient time for this transfer to be made.  There has been some growing concern during the past year regarding KP Law’s response time and whether or not the Board is been happy with their work.  All members had positive comments about Brian Falk, the attorney from Mirick O’Connell who had met with the Board in May.  Upon motion made and seconded, the Board voted to change Town Counsel from KP Law to Mirick O’Connell effective July 1, 2021; the motion passed unanimously.  The Board also agreed to rely on the two attorneys to decide which current cases should be turned over to Mirick O’Connell and which ones KP Law should see through to their final outcome.

A discussion of the Town’s adoption of the Juneteenth holiday will be postponed to a later date.

The Board voted to approve the minutes from their May 18, 2021 meeting.

The Vendor and Payroll Warrants will not ready for signatures at the time of the meeting.  They will be reviewed and signed by the Board when they become available.

The meeting adjourned at 4:50 pm

Respectfully Submitted

Nancy Aldrich

Town Coordinator
