Notice of Public Survey and Public Meeting

The Town of New Salem invites the public for comments and discussion regarding the Police Future Committee survey.

During the summer of 2021 four surrounding police department leaders had been invited to discuss a number of options on the topic of regionalizing police departments.  The discussion  included regionalizing our current department with a surrounding community, maintaining the current police department with part time staff as it is now or developing a long term plan to expand the current department.

Out of those initial discussions this committee was formed and appointed a five member board to review the policing needs, and options for the future.  The committee will not be the deciding body regarding the future of the police department.   The residents of New Salem are encouraged to participate and develop a town wide consensus regarding the department.

The committee has developed and will be distributing a survey to all residents in the town and invite the public to join a public discussion at the New Salem Town hall basement on April 20, 2022 at 7:00pm.

The committee has developed two  ways for the public to complete the survey in order to gain as much public feedback as possible.

A written survey will be sent to all residents in the town and will be requested to be returned no later than May 15.  Town residents may mail the survey back to the town administrator or drop off at the New Salem Public Library or we have created an online version.

The Police Future Committee invites the public to the New Salem Town Hall basement 15 South Main St.  meeting room on April 20, 2022 at 7:00 pm.   The meeting will be directed by the town moderator.
